2019 May 26 Sunday in Cutty’s, Grimes, Iowa

Another 3/4″ of rain overnight. That makes around 5″ this week.

I had the day off from the fee booth. However, I conducted the worship service at Cutty’s campground.

https://youtu.be/ci-RP_lqltM

Ella videoed it and I’ll post it when/if I can move it to my device.

After worship, we went out to a buffet for lunch.

God bless and g’nite

60° mostly cloudy that turned sunny and hot.

I worked the middle shift at the fee booth (11-7). I thought yesterday was wild. But Today was even busier. Not with people coming to cramp, but with people coming to visit people who are camping.

Now would be a good timetho say that we are not a public campground. It is for members and guests of members only. The only way a non member gets through the gate is out a member notifies the fee booth that a guest (must give a name) is coming. When they arrive they are given a day pass and directions to the member’s site. Today we had 80+ members calling in over 400 guests! Each one had to stop and get a pass. Plus people with golf carts were being ticketed for not having up to date club issued license plates. Yes that’s a thing. To receive a plate or yearly sticker, must sign a form stating that they understand the club rules regarding operating a golf cart on club property. They must also have a copy of proof of current insurance on the cart. Since they were getting ticketed, many were coming in to update their plates and insurance information. Everything takes time.

God bless and g’nite

More rain. Yes that it’s 2.5 inches.

Rain making our lake overflow. And the marsh filled and flooded over the road.

..

Today left me with my tongue hanging out. I sweating like a dog. Day 9 was extremely busy. I had thought the weather would keep more people away. It appears that it only changed their Day of arrival.

2019 May 22 Wednesday in Cutty’s, Grimes, Iowa

The day started a warm 57° with no wind and nearly clear sky. This was a welcome relief from the last string of days.

We had a coupon for two breakfast meals at Burger King for $5 that we cashed in on today

We arrived at the Grimes senior center before 9. We did our normal play games and eat. After lunch bingo was played and I was the caller.

This wss or first official Free Pie Wednesday since returning tio Iowa. Sue and Stoney, and Jean and Keith joined is at Village Inn.

We had a lot of shopping to do today. A trip to Wal-Mart was clearly in the cards for us.

Around 7 Ella went to play Train dominoes at the adult

2019 May 21 Tuesday in Cutty’s, Grimes, Iowa

Feels like 39°! It’s the last full week of May, why is it so cold? Dang that global warming and you too Al Gore. Grin.

The wind kept rousing me from deep sleep overnight.

Day eight of feebooth work. I like to froze to death this morning at work. We have just a “milkhouse” style heater and it has trouble keeping up with the heat loss through two sets of glass patio doors, seven windows, and two entrance doors plus the complete lack of insulation. Brrrr.

As Pooh bear would say,

Rain makes everything look impressionistic.

More rain, more wind, and more unseasonably cold. I’m really not liking this weather.

The campers are staying away in droves. Memorial Day, 4th of July, and Labor Day are the three big camping weekends of the year. But with the weather as it is (and predicted to continue) this may be a very empty (by comparison)park this weekend.

Just doodling while at work with nothing else to do.

It was raining very hard when it was time for me to leave work. Ella really didn’t want to go out to the truck and come get me. That made me upset and I said that I’d just walk home then. I had walked less than half way when she showed up. The fact that she was still going on and on about how she got her shoes wet getting tho the truck, did nothing to ease my upset.

I realized that part of my problem was low blood sugar so I had her drive to Cutty’s cafe. I ordered a pizza for my lunch/supper and her supper (she had lunch at the senior center). All is once more well with the world.

God bless and g’nite

2019 May 19 Sunday in Cutty’s, Grimes, Agency, Prescott, and Winterset, Iowa

57° and cloudy start with intermittent rains and a high of 58°.

.

We left home shortly after sunrise.

And arrived at John and Dawn’s right at 8:00 and shortly thereafter began a day long road trip.

We arrived in Agency Iowa around 9:30. After a brief stop at a convenience store for bathroom breaks, we went to the cemetery to places flowers on Ella’s parents’s grave.

We then attended church at the church where her father, grandparents, and great grandparents had attended.

After church we stopped for lunch or maybe it was a very late brunch. Dawn ordered pancakes, eggs, hash browns, and a ham streak. She didn’t expect what she got.

Ella had French toast made from thick slices of French bread. Eat your heart out Texas toast.

John then drove from the south east part of the state to the south west. We went to Prescott Iowa where many in my family are buried. Including my great uncle George Jones.

My grand parents

And my aunt Ann’s uncle.

The next stop was the cemetery on Winterset Iowa where many out Dawn’s family are buried.

We arrived home just shy of 12 hours from when we left. It was a great day of sharing family stories.

2019 May 18 Saturday in Cutty’s, Grimes, Iowa

62° start and reached 73 between the rains.

I’m sharing the link to the Go Fund Me account for our Texas home church that burnt last Saturday.

We arrived at Cutty’s Campfire Cafe for coffee with friends at 9:00 this morning. Unfortunately the cafe didn’t open until 10. It was sprinkling. Sue Stone was on her electric wheelchair/ scooter. So instead if standing around in the rain, or having Sue riding about 10 minutes in the rain to get back to her camper. We made a dash to the Adult Center, which is maybe 100 feet from the cafe. We stayed and played Mexican Train dominoes until nearly 10. Then back to the cafe for coffee.

From 10:30 to 11:30+ there was a clubhall meeting. Like a townhall meeting but at Cutty’s Camping Club. And just like a town hall meeting, they always seem to end with grumbling and complaining that the board is doing too little or spending too much. Ella went.

However I chose to stay home and make cornbread to go with the navy beans cooking in the crockpot.

While attempting to sweep up more maple seeds faster than they fell, I discovered that the sealant on an exterior slideroom wall we bio longer doing it’s job. Knowing that more rain was coming, I made a run to the hardware tho purchase sealant. I wanted white but black it’s what they had.

So black is what I got. I managed to get it applied before the next round of rain hit. I didn’t have time to make it nice and neat. And it differently didn’t have time to cure. But I hope it works.

I had a hankerin’ for pancakes for supper..

We have a nice variety off birds at our feeders. I wish I could capture photos of all off them.

“It was a dark and stormy night. Suddenly, a shot rang out! A door slammed. The maid screamed.

Suddenly, a pirate ship appeared on the horizon! While millions of people were starving, the king lived in luxury. Meanwhile, on a small farm in Kansas, a boy was growing up.” ©Snoopy

It was a dark and stormy night but no shot rang out, no door slammed, no maid screamed, and no pirate ship appeared on the horizon. We did flinch a couple of times at the close lightening strikes and booming thunder.

The worst part of the storm is past us now.

A little over 2 1/2″ of rain from the storm.

Pollen advisory? Really? It must be going to dry off quickly.

And look at our patio, that I worked do hard on. I just got the maple leaves cleaned up. Now I have maple seeds everywhere!

We had oatmeal for breakfast. Ella likes her’s with brown sugar and milk. I, just like my mother, like mine with brown sugar and butter. Does anyone else eat theirs with butter instead of milk?

The group at the Grimes senior center today.

Ella and Joyce stuffed bulletins for the Crossroads church that Joyce attends. (not to be confused with Cross Tracks that we attend in Texas)

While they were doing that I helped with cleanup in the center kitchen.

We don’t see many Orioles at our feeders so this was a rare treat for us. We also attracted a cowbird and red winged blackbird.

We played Card Jackpot with about a dozen others art Cutty’s adult center. It was a good way to end the day.
