2019 March 25 Monday in Liberty Hill and Georgetown, Texas

66° and cloudy. It reached 72° and was still cloudy.

Here is today’s sunrise. Depressing isn’t it? But, praise God I was alive to see it.

We had lunch at the Georgetown senior center. We had time to play one round of Rummikube before lunch. I don’t remember who won. We don’t keep score.

The blue bonnets are popping up all over. For those of you who don’t live on the Texas hill country … Blue bonnets are to us what the robins are up north … the first signs of spring.

We made a quick stop tho check for mail.

I found what I took to be a blemish or a photo artifact near the lower middle tho the right on the photo. But when I checked the sky, I saw that it really was there. A small group of clouds floating at a different level than the rest of them.

G’night and God bless.

2019 March 24 Sunday in Liberty Hill , Texas

Adult male polyphemus moth, Antheraea polyphemus

As Ella was getting out of the truck at church this morning, she discovered this mouth on thesidewalk.
61° and cloudy but it soon opened up to a nearly cloudless sky and reached 80°.

.

As usual pastor John Saint gave a thought provoking sermon. This was built upon the parable of the fig tree found in Luke 13:6-9.

And the sunset in a burnt orange sky. My Texas friends say that color sky is proof that God is a Longhorns fan.

G’night and God bless.

2019 March 23 Saturday

2019 March 23 Saturday in Liberty Hill , Texas

60° and cloudy. It barely made it to 70° under a completely cloudy day.

It was a hazy lazy day. We had no place that we HAD to be so we saw no reason to hurry out of bed. Not that we slept longer. We just may abed and did things on our phones. Ella played games, read and wrote messages while I worked on my devotional blog, MusingsDevotionals.WordPress.com http://MusingsDevotionals.WordPress.com.

By ten fifteen my bladder coaxed me out of bed. Having satisfied that need, I dressed and went to the kitchen to start breakfast. Two eggs, one crisp bacon, and multigrain toast. Ella had coffee and I had ice tea (not sweet).

Back on March 7th I posted on my Random Thoughts blog how too make a Buddy Burner. I still had a can, some corrugated cardboard, and some left over wax. So today I made one .more – almost. As it turned out, I didn’t have quite enough wax.

There is something good to remember when making these things. Even when the can has cooled to just above room temperature, the wax inside it’s still molten. I mention this because – that’s right, I spilled hot wax on my hand and the kitchen counter. Now I really need more wax to finish this last burner.

G’night and God bless.

A LOOK BACK AT JANUARY 2010

When this was first written, we were staying in our Road Ranger 5th wheel trailer at Cutty’s Des Moines Camping Club.

Well, it’s been an interesting month so far. December ended with being the snowiest month on record! And we’ve had some interesting snows this month also. Temperatures have varied from -17 degrees to +43.

Mrs. Claus (Ella) and I helped a friend on New Year’s eve. She owns a ballroom and had a large party booked. We took digital photos of the people as they posed in front of a 2010 sign. That’s the first time in a long time that we’ve been awake at midnight on New Year’s.

We’ve been babysitting with great-granddaughter, Lorelai on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays & Fridays in January. On Fridays we collect great-granddaughter Charlotte from her preschool. We then all go swimming (at Cutty’s Des Moines Camping Club) for an hour-or-so until Nathan comes to get them. We’ve had Charlotte a couple of extra days when school was dismissed because of the weather.

Linnea brought by some Christmas gifts on the 4th.

On the 5th we had supper with friends at Epworth UMC.

Amber called on the 6th to say that their gifts from us had arrived. Ella had a Dr.’s appointment on the 6th for a physical.

The 7th brought a blizzard (we stayed home and warm while Nate brought the girls to us)

The 10th we went to Adam & Leigha’s for a joint birthday party for Tate & Emery. Both kids had grown so much from the last time we saw them.

Tom is now part of the worship committee at Union Park UMC. (I’d managed to avoid committees until I retired)

We saw “Avatar” in 3D on the 14th. We chose the matinee in the middle of the week and had only a handful of people in attendance. The movie was everything that people have said it would be. i.e. very simple plot that we’ve seen a hundred times (think “Dances with wolves” or the Ewoks battle with the Imperial Storm Troopers). The CGIs were truly amazing! There wasn’t one of the incredible background scenes that looked “painted” or phony.

Grandson Brandon had a show choir preformance on the 15th. Lincoln’s show choir has over 40 members in it. What a lot of talent.

2019 March 22 Friday in Leander and Liberty Hill , Texas

49° and mostly clear with the full moon still in the western sky this morning. It reached 76° this afternoon before clouding over.

Good Morning, Moon!

Good Morning, Sun!

After lunch we drove tho the Leander United Methodist church tho play games

50+ Game Day at the Leander UMC is a once a month event. People bring their favorite games to share with others. We took both our Fast Track game and Rummikube. Bill and Karen usually come and play Fast Track with us. However, they weren’t there today. The other tables already had enough players for their games. That meant that Ella and I played against each other. We could Have stayed home and done that.

For lunch I made a corn chowder in the Instapot. With the lid removed, I chopped chopped 4 thick cut pieces of bacon into bite size bits and sauteed them. I grated a fist size potatoe and two carrots into the pot, still on saute. I had a couple small pieces of celery that I also chopped and added to the mix.

I kept it stirred so that the veggies would be heated but not browned. Though I usually use frozen corn, this time I incorporated a can of corn (not drained) and an equal amount of milk.

With the pot still on saute, the chowder was brought to a boil. At that point I cancelled saute mode and turned the pot to slow cook with the lid on and the vent open.

Over the next hour and a half I would occasionally stir it to keep the milk from breaking down or foaming over. I could also have added butter or oil to keep it from foaming. However, after a taste test, I decided against adding anything other than salt and pepper.

When it was served, I added a small dollop of sour cream which is totally optional.

It was good enough that we had the leftover for supper.

No photo tonight because it was completely cloudy and no sunset was seen.

Today seemed like Saturday to me. Now I’ll Have a whole ‘nother Saturday tomorrow.

G’night and God bless.

2019 March 21 Thursday

2019 March 21 Thursday in Liberty Hill , Texas

I slept over eight hours last night. Well technically, I only 2 minutes last night. Sleep started at 11:58 on. Anyway … before I sidetracked myself … the point was … I slept a L—O—N—G time. Normally, I average five to six hours of sleep.

41° and clear this morning. It reached 79° by 1 pm and stayed right there until sundown. By all accounts it was a great first full day of spring.

We arrived at Over the Hill Gang about 10:45 and started playing Fast Track. The first game was just Ella and I. By the second game, Naomi and Lu joined us. We had just finished the game when lunchtime arrived. Brats, sauerkraut, and beans. It was good even if the brats were a little overcooked for my tastes. After lunch the 4 of us were joined by Ann and Charlotte for a few games of canasta. We had to stop the last hand at 2:50 because of Ella’s therapy appointment at 3. One of the joys of small town living is that nothing is too far away (except malls).

Ella didn’t come out from therapy until about 4:10. I ask if she had been kept after class for bad behaviour. No, she’d just been talking to someone.

G’night and God bless.

2019 March 20 Wednesday in Liberty Hill , Texas

41° partly cloudy in the morning

That light isn’t the sun it’s a security light.

It was too cloudy for a Sunday photo

Today we went to Grandies, as usual on Wednesdays. However, our church parking lot is being repaired and restriped this week. Therefore, we were unable to meet in the fellowship hall. Thankfully, we were allowed to meet at the Over the Hill Gang’s building this week.

This image is not really the true sunset. It is maybe ten degrees north of the sunset, which under deep dark clouds.

G’night and God bless.

2019 March 19 Tuesday in Georgetown and Liberty Hill , Texas

46° partly cloudy and rain showers in the morning.

Captured several nice photos this morning.

There wasn’t a very big group at the senior center today. Maybe it was the meal. We had a small burger with a choice of chips or tater tots.

We made a short stop at Wal-Mart for a few items that we need before next week.

Ella had her therapy an hour later today. Maybe they were backing out of daylight savings.

Not a bad sunset.

G’night and God bless.

2019 March 15 Friday in Liberty Hill and Cedar Path, Texas

50° mostly cloudy and crawled slowly to 57°.

Nice sunrise this morning just before it disappeared into the clouds.

Immediately after breakfast we hightailed it to the VA clinic for a diabetic eye test.

With the test over and done, I took the opportunity of good cell service to call Verizon customer service. Last summer we purchased a HUM X device and then it quit working. Back in early February I received an email saying that they were shipping a replacement. However, they shipped it to an address that we haven’t used in years. So today I called to get everything straighten out. They will be shipping a new device to our current address.

No, that’s not the moon. It’s the sun at 6:16 this evening. In spite of the gloomy sky here, it was really a nice day.

But an hour later, it looked like this.

G’night and God bless.
