29° one degree warmer than yesterday. And got to 36. It’s a warming trend … It must be global warming! Grin. Seriously though, it is supposed to very slowly keep warming all day and through the night.

Rudolf the red nosed pickup was coated in ice from the freezing rain last night/early this morning.

These photos were shot through the bedroom window. I’m not going outside for awhile (if ever) today because the deck and stairs are also coated with ice. I’m old and brittle … can’t risk a fall.

Here are photos of the deck.

I made some Irish soda bread today. Since it was a cold day, I’d baked a breakfast casserole that we had for brunch. While it was baking, I prepared the soda bread. Once the casserole was done, I cranked the oven too 425° and put the soda bread in to bake. It turned out very well, if I do say so myself.

We played games and Ella beat me every single time.

Neither of us ventured out the door today

Ella is healing nicely. She is ante to dress and undress herself most of the time now. She can get into the truck by herself, though I still stand behind her to make sure sheer doesn’t fall backward. I then help her with the seatbelt.

G’night and God bless.

28° what more can be said about that? It peeked out at 34.

Another gray flannel sky this morning.

And look at these tiny little ice pellets. They are too small to be hail and too big to be sleet.

For the last couple of days I’ve had an ear ache and I have been trying to tough it out. Today I was hurting badly enough to make a doctor’s appointment.

At first it appeared to be plugged with ear wax. They poured some hydrogen peroxide in my ear and let it set for 5 minutes. Then they came in with a huge shringe full of warm water and squirted that in my ear many times over. Then they examined it again and saw something else far back in the eat canal. Carefully they removed it.

It was the rubber pad from an earbud. I can’t hear much in that ear anyway so I never noticed a change in my hearing. I’ve no idea how long it had been in there.

The 50+ group at Leander United Methodist Church hosted a Valentine lunch today.

.

The panorama photo below shows how well attended it was.

After the meal, there was a game where we had to identify various candies and answer some trivia about candy. I didn’t do well. Even when they gave the answers I hadn’t heard of at least 1/3 of them. I was proud of the fact that I knew where the name for Snickers candybars came from. I’m not giving you the answer. Go ahead and Google it.

When we arrived home the effects of the “blizzard” were clearly seen.

We continued receiving more snow on into the night.

G’night and God bless.

57° and with passing rain showers.

The Weatherbug app said it reached 68° today. That must have been from 1:00 to 1:01 p.m. ’cause I never saw it.

The forecast is for the temperature to slowly drop down to freezing by midnight tonight.

Our truck is in for repair (see yesterday’s post) and I hope to hear from them this morning about the cause and the cure.

<fast forward>

I heard. It was the alternator as suspected. John, a neighbor, was kind enough to give me a ride into town, where i picked up the truck. I came back home and got Ella before going to the Over the Hill Gang for lunch and games.

The photo below shows that the sky didn’t change much as the day progressed.

After lunch at the OTHG we played Canasta

.

Ella once again had as hour’s worth of physical therapy today

,

As day fades into night the sky puts on one last remarkable show for the day.

G’night and God bless.

2019 February 06 Wednesday

2019 February 06 Wednesday in Liberty Hill, Texas

64° and completing overcast. This is sunrise (?) today.

We made it to Grandies this morning. Stayed and played canasta after the meeting. There were 17 people there today which is a really large group.

After the meeting and after the canasta we went over to the physical therapist where Ella was subjected to the torture of a physical therapist. From there we went home I did dishes and we took naps.

In the evening we headed in town for choir practice. On the way into town the idiot light battery indicator came on and I watchd the amp meter slowly fade away. We lost all the gauges but we made it all the way into town to the corner of 1869 and the 332 Loop when the truck completely died at a stop sign. I got out of the truck and signaled to the people behind me to come around. But instead of coming around they pulled up beside me on the curbside and into a parking space. Four guys got out and they were going to push me up the hill and around the corner. I said, “No just let me back into that spot that you’re in.” I had no power but I just put it in neutral and coastef backwards into the parking space.

They put jumper cables on and the truck started. Shortly after the cables were removed, the gauges all quit and then the truck died. The consensus was that it was the alternator.

I called Good Sam roadside assistance and they contacted a local deal who could work on it tomorrow. A tow services was also called to move it to the repair shop.

In the mean time the guys, who had stopped to help, took Ella to the church and then came back to check on me. Thank you God.

The tow service driver dropped me off at the church for choir practice. After practice one of our friends drove us home.

G’night and God bless.

2019 February 05 Tuesday in Liberty Hill, Texas

45° and mostly cloudy at the start. By mid day It was 74 outsideand 79 inside. At that point I started the air conditioner.

It was a stay at home and do nothing day. Well that’s not quite true. I attempted to install a lock on our shed. I’m not inept with tools. Having said that, I was not able to put eight tiny screws into the two parts of the lock set. I will try again later.

Tuesday night prayer meeting was a great way to fin end the day.

G’night and God bless.

2019 February 03 Sunday in Liberty Hill, Texas

58° and still completely overcast. The clouds started breaking apart in the mid afternoon. It reached 73° around 3 p.m.

Sunday was a good Sabbath for us. We attended church where we heard pastor Saint’s sermon “Love the Sinner, Hate the Sin” (based on Adam Hamilton’s book, “Half Truths.”

We sang in the choir. Then had a good discussion (even though out wandered off topic) in Sunday school.

Afterward we went to subway for lunch. We came home and napped away most of the afternoon.

It was 81° in the livingroom from the afternoon sun streaming through the windows. I closed the curtains, opened the door and several roof vents to cool it a bit. It got down to 77 but then started climbing again. So I closed the door and started the air conditioner. By the way, I’m glad that our family and friends up North are above freezing today.

Another peaceful day in paradise. We played several rounds of Rummikube.

G’night and God bless.

61° and partly to mostly cloudy. It reached 73 today, There was a little color in the sky this morning and at sunset the sky was ablaze.

I made hashbrowns and biscuits for breakfast. I guess I was hungry.

Ella had her last physical therapy at home today. From now on (starting Wednesday) she Will need to go to the therapist in Liberty Hill.

We also went to the laundromat and took care of our dirty clothes.

Around 4:30 the sky looked like this.

I made a brief stop at Winkley’s hardware for some tools. Saturday the handle for the RV’s blackwater dump valve broke. I ordered from Amazon and itt arrived today. I needed a channellock tio remove the stub of a handle before installing the newhandle.

Here is that Sunset is mentioned earlier.

G’night and God bless.

55° and fog. I can hear traffic on the road just zipping right along dispite boot being able to see what’s ahead. The adult version of the “Bird Box Challenge”. Remarkably It reached 71° without the sun ever making an appearance. There was drizzle off and on.

Happy sunrise … it’s got to be there somewhere.

Ella had prescriptions to pick up. When we arrived, the pharmacy had just closed closed for their hour lunch break.

Sunset looks much like sunrise today.

Another slow day in the life. No news is good news.

G’night and God bless.

2019 February 01 Friday in Liberty Hill, Texas

53° and that overcast sky from yesterday is still here.

Bacon, eggs, and toast for breakfast around 10:30. Ella was having a hard time getting up this morning. No, it was not a physical impairment. More of a lack or desire. She was tired.

There were a few essentials that we needed and a few things they we wanted. So off to Wal-Mart we went.

When we were done at Wally World I made a stop at the Verizon store. I had received an email from Verizon stateing that they were sending a replacement HUM device to replace the one we have which is not working. However, there is a problem. They shipped it to a UPS Store address that we haven’t used in 5 or 6 years. There is nothing that can be done to reroute the package but I made sure that that now have the correct shipping address. The strange thing is we have correctly received shipments to our proper address, from Verizon in the past few years.

Now, I’ve been trying to call the UPS store and I haven’t gotten through the automated (press 1 for this and 2 for that) phone system. I found an email for the store and sent an email explaining what had happened and asking for their help.

One of the items that we were not able to find at Wal-Mart was a spill proof cup. Ella said that she’s knew H.E.B. carried them. So we stopped there. I went in and found a cup identical to the broken one.

As I was returning to the truck I saw Judy, one of our friends. We don’t see much of her now because she moved to Menard, Texas which is over 2 hours away. While talking to her, Charlotte, another friend pulled into a parking spot right in front of us.

We were both strangely tired when we arrived home. Ella dropped her recliner down and went to sleep almost immediately. I was watching a YouTube video on primitive technology … and woke an hour and a half later.

After supper we played a few games of Fast Track.

Soon it was bedtime. Which means It was time to finish this and post the blog.

G’night and God bless.

2019 January 31 Thursday

2019 January 31 Thursday in Liberty Hill, Texas

Ain’t nothin’ but grey sky. No sun to be seen.

The day started with a cold drizzle. Fortunately at 42° it was well above freezing. Today toppled out at 49° while still under grey skies.

Thursday is Over the Hill Gang in Liberty Hill. It was “hat day” but very few remembered to wear one.

We had a good sized crowd today at 59 for lunch.

Unfortunately the only thing on the menu that didn’t have onion was the pinto beans and the desserts. The beans would have been better with some ham.

We stopped at “Mom’s”* on the way home. She had made another peach cobbler for us. It was for ME. I know that she intended it to all be mine. Mine! Mine!

2 o’clock in the afternoon looked just like 6:30 in the morning or 6:30 in the evening.

Ellas physical therapist came this afternoon. He was pleased with her progress. He plans to schedule her for 2 more visits before she goes for therapy at the office in Liberty Hill on Wednesday.
