2018 September 06 Thursday

2018 September 06 Thursday in Grimes, Grainger, Madrid, Woodard, and Moran Iowa

It stopped raining! Yay! A chilly 59° and cloudy start to the day. I kicked the furnace on the take the chill out this morning.

There Was a Wii bowling tournament planning session this morning at the Grimes senior center. That’s why it looks so barren in here. Only two of us we’re not in attendance.

Because of the bowling meeting we did not make it to coffee at the Cutty Cafe this morning. But went directly to the senior center.

There was still time for a game of Fast Track.

Entertainment at the senior center was provided by a gentleman playing the harmonica. He played the songs for each branch of the armed forces.

When we were done at the center, we took a drive. We were going nowhere in particular until we got to the town of Grainger (famous n for its hot and cold water towers). My brother and family had lived on an average outside of Grainger about 55 years ago. I have no idea of the address so I awoke going by memories. Surprisingly (tongue in cheek) everything had changed. Housing developments were everywhere. Gravel roads have been replaced with blacktop and concrete. No I did not find it. But it was a nice day for a drive (no rain).

2018 September 05 Wednesday in Grimes and Johnston Iowa

62° and the rain continues. 70° at noon and light rain.

We had an inch of rain overnight and it is still raining. So, I didn’t empty the rain gauge this morning.

.

Rudolph the Red-nosed pickup has a new hood ornament.

I’m aware that he’s not a caribou. However, Bomgaars only had white-tail deer rather than reindeer. He is glued to three super strong magnets with white Gorilla glue which has the added benefit of foaming to look like poles of snow.

I’m working 8 to. 2 again today. Then I don’t work again until the 10th. Six working days left.

Cuttys camping resort head a members only gate that uses key cards. Over the years I don’t know how many times a member had told me that their card isn’t working. When I move it closer to the sensor, the gate magically opens. They’ve been waveing the card at the reader from a for or more away.

2018 September 04 Tuesday in Grimes Iowa

73° and cloudy

The countdown to the last day of work has begun. After today, I have only seven more working days, with the last on the twenty-second.

I worked until 2:30 when Ella came to get me. I wanted to get some V8 Fusion so we stopped at Walmart. The truck was low on gas. We stopped at Kum & Go. They were running a special if you buy a pizza ($13) you save 10¢ a gallon ($2.10). I’m not sure if I won it lost. It was good pizza.

About four o’clock it began to rain… again. It continued throughout the night.

2018 September 03 Monday

2018 September 03 Monday Labor Day in Grimes Iowa

More rain fell overnight

70° and rain off and on all day. We’ve had nearly 4″ in the past 3 days. There are mushrooms or toadstools popping up everywhere

Breakfast was all you can eat pancakes at Cutty’s clubhouse. There was a pretty good turnout considering the rain.

We played games at home today.

.

Lunch was at Pizza Ranch. I love the chicken and the salad bar more than the pizza. The broccoli cheese soup was good also.

. The rain flowing down this maple tree enhanced the colors on the bark

There were some interesting clouds today.

A marathon if Rocky movies occupied our afternoon and evening. With a short break for caramel malts at the cafe

Another restful day.

I preached the last sermon for the season today

Then we went to a friend’s campsite at Cutty’s for a BBQ. They smoked a while calf with different seasoning rubs on various parts.

It was a day of rest.

2018 August 28 Tuesday

2018 August 28 Tuesday in Grimes Iowa

58° overnight with an abundance of clouds.

The lake at Cutty’s looked beautiful this morning.

The sky looked to be threatening rain for most of the day.

.

After our morning at the senior center, we stopped at Many Hands Thrift Market. Because of Ella’s problems with her shoulder, she needed more shirts that aren’t pullovers. She found four. The store is much like a small retail store and very neat and clean. It also raises money for a mission in in Haiti.

.

The sky was this gloomy grey all afternoon.

.

As a treat for ourselves we saw Antman and the Wasp this afternoon. There was only one other couple in the theater. I was surprised at the amount of humor in the movie. Surprised and pleased. We really enjoyed it … every Ella who was never a comic book freak liked I was.

No sunset and no photo

2018 August 27 Monday

2018 August 27 Monday in Grimes Iowa

73° hazy and humid. Reached 85 that felt like 94.

Rained overnight which made it steamy all day.

This is not the best picture of Sue and Stoney. But it’s the only one from this morning. It was only them and us for coffee today.

Every say I mention having coffee, breakfast, or supper at Cutty’s Cafe. So I decided to show you the menu so that you’ll better understand what I’m talking about.

We stopped at Casey’s to purchase my lunch (sausage sandwich) before going to the senior center and playing games.

Goulash was what everyone else ate for lunch. But because it had onions in it, I did not.

I worked 2-9. It was surprisingly slow considering that Labor Day is coming up.
