2019 March 07 Thursday in Liberty Hill, Texas

49° and overcast that reached 75° under partly sunny/mostly cloudy and then switched to completely overcast by 3 o’clock. And then the wind came up. We’ve gone from 30 degrees below normal to 30 degrees above normal within a couple of days.

,

We had lunch at the Over the Hill Gang and then stayed to play several games of canasta. We finished about 2:45 which gave us time to make the very short drive to the physical therapist.

While Ella was with the therapist, I went to Winkleys Hardware to purchase wax for a few Buddy stoves. You can see more any that at my Random Thoughts blog.

G’night and God bless.

2019 March 06 Wednesday

2019 March 06 Wednesday in Liberty Hill, Texas

23° and mostly sunny and reached 50° by noon and 54° before the sun disappeared into the clouds.

I slept In today, nine hours of sleep interrupted at 4 a.m. when the CPAP machine mysteriously shut off. That lead to a rude awakening! You kinda get used ta breathin’, don’t cha know?

Grandies meets at Cross Tracks Church, in the Fellowship Hall, every Wednesday, at 9, for a card ministry. We mail cards of all sorts to let people know that we’re thinking of and praying for them. Then, most of us, play games until around noonish.

One year ago our Grandies group was at the Blue Bonnet Cafe in Marble Falls for lunch. Once or twice a year we make the trek from Liberty Hill to the recycling center in Marble Falls with bunches of aluminum cans.

Today is Ash Wednesday so, after Grandies, we left the Fellowship Hall and walked next door to the Chapel for the service.

We then went across the road to Hobo Junction for lunch. I chose to forgo my unusual meal of chicken fried steak and had an open face roast beef sandwich with mashed potatoes. Ella had southern fried catfish with green beans and okra. We tarried a while after eating because we still had an hour to kill before going a short way down the street to Texas Physical Therapy for Ella’s treatment. One of the things about living in small towns is that nothing is too far apart.

We arrived about forty five minutes early, so we sat in the truck and played games or watched videos, until time for her to go in. Shortly, she came back to the truck. Her appointment is for tomorrow.

Other than some wasted time the only cost that I really regret is spending $30 for lunch rather than going home and eating food for which we have already paid.

G’night and God bless.

2019 March 05 Tuesday in Liberty Hill, Texas

22° and mostly cloudy. Turned to mostly sunny. Officially it reached 44° today. However, when I took Ella for get physical therapy at three o’clock, the thermometer in the truck said 46°.

I didn’t crawl out from under the nice warm blankets to capture a sunrise photo today. After days of nothing but uniformly gray skies, I just didn’t think that the sun might actually make an appearance today.

Food for thought and your tummy. About a month ago I ordered some “Survival” food from 4 Patriots. Originally I just planned to get their 72 hour emergency food supply. However, recently I’ve felt an urgency to be prepared for an unknown, unforseen, emergency.

Living in fifth wheel travel trailers for the last decade, as we have, has taught us to be ready to run for cover when severe storms approach. We have kept a small “to go” bag in our truck. It wasn’t much, just enough for a day or two. It has worked well as an overnight bag when we’ve been unexpectedly invited to spend the night with family or made an unplanned overnight stop on the road (without the trailer).

This year we’ve expanded the “to go” bag to two army duffle bags. Along with more clothing the bags now also include more survival gear.

But, back to the food order from 4 Patriots, I decided to order the 3 month packages along work the 72 hour food packs. We have been trying the different food packs (there are a large variety) and have been pleased with the ease to prepare as well as the taste. And, with a 25 year shelf life, they may well outlast me (if I don’t eat them first).

We decided to not go to the senior center for lunch today. The menu is just salads which doesn’t appeal to either of us. And it’s cold out, which makes it a good day to stay inside.

I almost missed this sunset photo.

G’night and God bless.

2019 March 04 Monday in Liberty Hill, and Georgetown Texas

26° feels like 14 under an overcast sky. It reached 33° for a minute or two.

We have a heated waterhose and I kept a kitchen faucet on a slow drip overnight to avoid frozen lines inside. We also opened cabinets where the water lines are located and directed a space heater into them.

.

We had more of a crowd than I expected at the Georgetown Senior Center.

G’night and God bless.

2019 March 02 Saturday in Liberty Hill, Texas

42° fog and overcast. That climbs climbedto 49 and overcast.

It is Independence Day in Texas. Texas Independence Day is the celebration of the adoption of the Texas Declaration of Independenceon March 2, 1836. With this document signed by 59 delegates, settlers in Mexican Texas officially declared independence from Mexico and created the Republic of Texas.

To celebrate the day we stayed home. We played some games, did do3ne reading, and watched some videos.

Tomorrow’s high temp is predicted to be 44° and rain. We may not go to Tate’s football game.

G’night and God bless.

2019 February 26 Tuesday

2019 February 26 Tuesday in Liberty Hill, and Georgetown, Texas

53°and foggy. The warmer weather is welcome even if it causes causes fog. It reached 71° under partly cloudy skies. Next Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday have predicted highs in the 40s and lows below freezeing.

The first stop on today’s journey was the local physician’s office for Ella’s annual (Medicare mandated) wellness test. We will get results on her blood test later, but every other thing tested normal for a person of her age.

Do you see how crooked that picture in the exam room is? I did, and my OCD couldn’t take it any more. I opened a bubble level app on my phone, and straightened the frame.

We arrived early enough at the Georgetown senior center to play five games of Fast Track. Ella won one. For lunch we had chicken Alfredo, spinach salad, and apple crisp. Some people also had cooked carrots. The severs failed to remove the foil from the top over one pan until latter. Because of that the first ones through the line received no carrots. I don’t carrotall for cooked carrots so I did not go back when they were offered.

After lunch we returned home for a short while before Ella’s therapy session in town.

Once the therapy was over, we returned home once more where Ella mixed some laundry detergent using felsnapa, borax, baking soda, and OxiClean.

Our last trip into town was to Cross Tracks Church for a prayer service. On a normalTuesday night we gather to pray for various healings of body, mind, and soul. We pray for our leaders from local to international. But this was not a typical Tuesday night. Today the United Methodist Church became United no longer. It has split 51 to 49 over the inclusion or exclusion of homosexuals in the church. No matter how you stand on the issue, it is sad to see the passing of an era in church history.

Another beautiful sunset. However, as soon as the sun had set, the clouds and fog rolled in.

G’night and God bless.

2019 February 28 Thursday in Liberty Hill, Texas

33° and completely overcast. It stayed overcast all day and reached a high of 45.

Another lack of sunrise today.

Only 43 people at the Over the Hill Gang today

It was Hat Day at the OTHG. Not many wore hats.

We stayed and played canasta until almost 2 o’clock. Ella’s therapy was at 3 so we didn’t bother going home between OTHG and her PT.

G’night and God bless.
