2018 October 16 Tuesday

2018 October 16 Tuesday in Liberty Hill and Georgetown

41° rain and wind that reached a high of 45° with rain and wind.

The South San Gabriel River bridge on 1869 (our main road from home into Liberty Hill) flooded over during the early morning hours today. By the time we went over it at around ten this morning, the water was once again running late under the bridge. However they was debris from the flooding still on the bridge. I didn’t think to take pictures this morning. I did take pictures on our return home this afternoon. This is the South San Gabriel River which most of the year can be walked across and maybe get your ankles wet

And this is the Little San Gabriel which is normally dry enough to not get the bottom of your feet wet.

Despite the flooding and the rain,

we made it to the Georgetown senior center for lunch. Once again no one stayed to play bingo.

When we arrived home it was about 57° inside. I turned the heat on and before long it was a comfortable 68°.

Tuesday night prayer meeting went from 7 to 8.

G’nite y’all!

2018 October 15 Monday

2018 October 15 Monday in Liberty Hill, Leander, and Cedar Park, Texas

35° windy (feels like 31) and rain. It rained constantly all day, some times harder than others but never stopping.

This first image is from 3:30 a.m. I’ll explain why I was awake at that time, in a moment. The second image is from 9:25 p.m. We were never in the center of the storm, but it just kept coming.

Leander Senior Center is where we had lunch (baked chicken, brussel sprouts, and diced potatoes). The only ones there were Jerry, Gloria, Ella and I.We played Rummikub until one Arlette arrived. I stopped playing so d she could play. Another woman named Sue (which we’d never meet before) and Fran also arrived. That was the total turnout for lunch.

The center also prepares meals for the Head Start day care and for z Meals On Wheels. Which is a great use of country resources. However, this creates a parking problem. There are only three designated handicap parking spots plus one for the center manager. If you look at the photo below, you will see that two spots appear to be open. However the delivery drivers for the Meals On Wheels are blocking the spots. They are technically not taking the handicap parking spots. However they are blocking them so that no one else may use them.

After lunch we went to Walmart. I needed to buy some camping chairs. Next Sunday we have family coming out for a meal. And we have not enough chairs. I purchased two extra large heavy duty (500 lb. capacity) camping chairs and for regular camping chairs.

Upon returning home we played games, read, watched television, and napped. Not much else to do on a cold rainy windy day.

2018 October 14 Sunday

2018 October 14 Sunday in Liberty Hill and Cedar Park, Texas

63° that reached 86 under make sunny skies.

It was a usual Sunday morning with breakfast at church. We sang in the choir for the nine o’clock service. Pastor Saint did an excellent, thought provoking sermon on Mark 10:17-31. We also had a guest soloist on the harp. I’m sorry I don’t remember her name. While she played the sanctuary was dead silent except for the harp. No children making noise, no one whispering, no rustling of papers, nor clearing of throats. Everyone was captivated by the beautiful music.

After church and Sunday school, we drove to Cedar Park for prescriptions and a few groceries.

It was a day of rest.

2018 October 13 Saturday

2018 October 13 Saturday in Liberty Hill and Kerrville, Texas

69° and rain. The puddles still had not dried since the rain ended on Tuesday. Now they’re getting a refill. The ten day forecast had rain everyday for the next right days. Something you need to know about our section of the Texas Hill country, it is rocks and hills with no depth of soil. That means the rain either runs down the hill (and across the road – turn around don’t drown) or it just sits there in puddles until they evaporate.

After years of drought, the rain is needed. However, coming like it has been, it is causing flash floods. The Llano River, which has been described as “a mile wide and an inch deep” roared through Junction, Texas at thirty-plus feet last week. Four men were swept away. They’ve found two of the bodies. One woman hung onto some debris for before being rescued twenty miles down stream. An RV park was totally destroyed and many homes were damaged. our friend Judy who pastors the United Methodist Church in Menard, which is about 31 miles from Junction Texas, went on a mission trip to Junction to help with the cleanup.

This morning Ella assisted at the first ever Rummage Sale for Sonshine Friends preschool. There was a lot of stuff there for first-time rummage sale. attendance didn’t seem to be great but again it’s the first time if they make this an annual event it probably will grow a lot stronger.

We left the rummage sale and headed to Kerrville by way of Bertram, Burnet, and Marble Falls. With a stop in Marble Falls for lunch at KFC/LJS.

The only problem was that I thought The Loan Star Santa’s were to meet at five o’clock. Which was wrong. It was to start at one. We arrived at about three and left about four thirty. Which got us home at almost six thirty. I hope to have pictures later.

I’m plumb tuckered out.

2018 October 11, 2918 Thursday

2018 October 11, 2918 Thursday in Liberty Hill and Cedar Park, Texas

69° with scattered clouds in the East. 73° for the high under overcast sky at mid day.

I made a quick cherry cobbler before breakfast. That was to take to the Over The Hill.

Meatloaf was on the menu today. I asked about onions and was told that the meatloaf did contain onions. Thankfully there was beans and corn bread and a tomato lettuce salad.

We were unable to stay for games after lunch because Ella has an ENT appointment at one o’clock in Cedar Park.

The ENT doctor removed the tube from Ella’s ear. It had worked it’s way mostly out of the eardrum on its own.

She has some pressure in her ears. The doctor prescribed done medication and had it called in to the pharmacy.

I took the scenic route home.

I finished the patching of the roof by painting it with the rubber roofing compound.

2018 October 12 Friday

2018 October 12 Friday in Liberty Hill and Leander, Texas

Cool and overcast this morning but reached 79° by midday under mostly cloudy sky. No rain though which is a good thing right now.

Immediately after breakfast we drove to the laundromat in Leander with our dirty clothes.

We didn’t take time to fold clothes because we were having lunch with Heather and Austin at Hobo Junction in Liberty Hill.

The remainder of the day was spent in rest and relaxation.

We did get to meet a new neighbor who arrived yesterday in a class A. His name is Thomas. I think I can remember that.

2018 October 10 Wednesday

2018 October 10 Wednesday in Liberty Hill, Texas

67° that reached 75° under a cloudless sky.

Grandies met from 9-12 including the time for a game.

Some of us had lunch at Hobo Junction. Gotta love that chicken fried steak done right.

After lunch we came home so that I could get that patch on the roof. We need to wait 24 hours to for the sealant to cure. After that I’ll paint it with elastomeric roof coating. I may need to apply some caulking also

While I was working on the roof, Ella was missing up some laundry detergent. It contains, washing soda, borax, Oxyclean, and Fels-Naptha. We’ve used it for years now and it works great.

We had time for a nap before going back to the church for choir practice.

Choir was a little shorter than usual so that we could go to the fellowship hall and celebrate Donna’s 90th birthday.

Birthday party

2018 October 09 Tuesday

2018 October 09 Tuesday in Liberty Hill, Georgetown, Texas

62° and rain to begin the day.

Awake at four and last there listening to the rain and disliking it. I have drip pans under the leaking roof. But I really need it to dry off before I can repair the roof damage.

Manuel, one of my friends from church said that he has left over supplies from repairing an RV roof earlier. I gave him a piece of plywood and he’s going to cut the edges at 45° angles. That should prevent tearing at the edge of the patch. He dropped the stuff off in the afternoon today.

We had an extremely heavy rain about one o’clock that quickly flooded all of the lie water crossings. Manny was able to get through in his Suburban. If he had been in a car, he might not have gotten to us.

Lunch was at the Georgetown senior center today. As can be seen in the photo, a lot of day old bread had been donated.

People came to eat but not enough started, do, no bingo was played.

.

Tuesday night means Prayer Meeting at Cross Tracks Church.

2018 October 08 Monday

2018 October 08 Monday Columbus Day in Liberty Hill, Cedar Park, Texas

71° and spotty rain this morning and all through the day. Sometimes it came down very heavily. It reached a high of about 75° before quickly cooling off again

Awake at quarter to five, I realized that the fan at the foot of the bed wasn’t working. I unplugged it and moved to a different socket. No go. The fan is dead. Moved a tower fan from the living room to the bedroom. A fan helps me sleep. It is a combination of the air movement and the white noise created by the fan.

Before we left for the doctor’s, I set off a bug bomb in our home. Hopefully, it will kill some of those pesky flies.

More interesting clouds this morning

Ella had her first meeting with the surgery today. We arrived forty five minutes early. I had anticipated heavier traffic. But it is Columbus day and schools and government offices are closed. Ella and the doctor discussed the why, how, when and where of having her shoulder replaced.

Doctor Benjamin Szerlio specializes in this reverse shoulder replacement. He actually helped design the replacement joint. He also teaches other surgeons how to do the surgery.

When we finished at the orthopedic doctor we went to Liberty Hill Physicians so that Dr. Chesshir could examine her and refill her prescriptions.

Then we drove back to Walmart in Cedar Park for supplies and prescriptions … Although we forgot to purchase. the medications.

We had lunch at Whataburger before returning home.

We sat under the RV awning and watched the rain for a while this afternoon. It was only about 70° which was quite comfortable.

When the rain became too intense, we went inside and played several games of Fast Track and Rummikub.

2018 October 07 Sunday

2018 October 07 Sunday in Liberty Hill and Leander Texas

70° rain shower (and yes the roof leaked) it cleared up and reached the mid 80s until a short down burst ran through around 4 o’clock. Then it cooled off. We sat out under the awning until nearly sundown.

9:00 o’clock traditional service at Cross Tracks Church followed by Sunday school (F.R.O.G.*class)

A bunch of us gathered for lunch at Cherry Creek Catfish Parlor in Leander. The catfish meal came in three sizes. I opted to the medium. I should have offered the small. There was way too much food on the plate. I brought half of it home.

After lunch I went to Lowe’s for paintbrushes, house numbers and a piece of plywood. After being misdirected to the wrong area by one employee, I found James. James didn’t just point and say aisle 19, he took me there. When I said that I was looking a small piece of plywood, he went and got a scrap that was two foot by four foot which will work for what I’m doing. He told me to tell them at the checkout that “James said it is a scrap.” I wasn’t charged for the lumber. If Lowe’s would hire more people like James, I might change my opinion of their service.

Yesterday I mentioned the amount of flies inside and out. They’re not biting but they sure do bug me with their buzzing around and crawling on me.

Obviously something has been chewing on me though. My bet is on fire ants. Nasty little creatures.
